What do you see in this video is in fact nothing special for you: a child dancing with her mother and moving around in a room.
This "nothing special" you will no more regard as a matter of course if you know the history of this little girl: she came to me as she was eight months old, suffering from a very high hypertonic spasticity so that she could do practically nothing, but only lying on her back pulled in a high arch by her hyper tensed back muscles, with her head turned to the side by a strong torticolis.
Wanting to trust her crying mother concerning the future of the little child I told her that I ask her only one thing, namely that she will tell me, even if we will no more meet one another, when her daughter will walk skates.
Well, at least I got with my remark that the mother stopped her crying, not because she became instantly confident in the future of her daughter, but through the shock she got from my idea, an idea which on the background of her indoctrination by the doctors, seemed for her in the first moment just enough crazy in order to think I am fantasizing.
Thanks to the fact that the child was brought to me at a sufficient early age in order to be still able to change relatively quickly the dangerous direction of her functional development one could observe already at the end of the first session unexpected improvements, as, for example, the flattening of the child's back to a considerably degree, quieting down of its spastic uncontrolled movements which were replaced by smooth, to the surrounding attentive movements of the eyes and head.
The first two or three weeks I worked daily with the child and than three times a week for about three or four months. With fifteen months nobody and also the paediatric doctor of the child could see anymore a sing of her previous handicap.
Meanwhile I moved and I have completely forgotten even that I have worked with that child.
About two years after I have met the child and its parents for the last time I found, as I came home, in my fax machine the following letter:

Hello Paul,
perhaps you remember, I am Laura's mother (3 ΒΌ)
I should let you know when Laura can roller-skate.
This she cannot do yet because there is no roller skate for the shoe size 24.

But she can already: Scooters drive
walk on stilts
Balancing on a rope (on the ground)
Dancing on one leg

And much more

Furthermore I wish you much success in your treatments.

Unfortunately, I do not have your new address.

Ursula Berlinski

This letter is published in original in German on my homepage. Hier you can find it: http://www.feldenkrais-training.de/index.php?language=1&topic=8&page=4
After another one and a half year we met in order to make the film the sequence of which you can see here.
Unfortunately I didn't film the child as it came for the first time to me. At that time I didn't care to document my work on videotape.
